AEROSMITH Guitarist JOE PERRY's Solo Album Release Pushed Back To May

February 4, 2005

Launch Radio Networks is reporting that AEROSMITH lead guitarist Joe Perry has announced more details for his upcoming solo album, on which he sings and plays all the guitar, bass, and keyboard parts. The self-titled project will be out May 3 — not March 28, as he'd previously said — and the first single is called "Shakin' My Cage". The album features 11 original tracks, along with covers of "The Crystal Ship" from THE DOORS and WOODY GUTHRIE's "Vigilante Man". Perry told Launch that working on covers was integral to getting the album done. "To get inspired to go down and write, I would go down and cover some of my favorite old rock songs or blues songs," he said. "So I'd go down and do, like, 'Little Red Rooster' — you know, sing it, play it, and do the whole exercise and, and finish a song. And then the next day, I would write something new."

Perry didn't include "Little Red Rooster" on his album. THE HOWLIN' WOLF blues standard has been recorded by acts including the GRATEFUL DEAD, ERIC CLAPTON, THE DOORS, TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS, and the ROLLING STONES.

Perry plans to do some live shows to support the album, but the dates and locations haven't been revealed.
